Jerry Long
President & CEO, PCC Technology Group, Bloomfield, CT
“I didn’t go to Dr. Ebanks to improve my golf game,” says Jerry Long, Founder, President and CEO of PCC Technology Group in Bloomfield. “But it’s one of the results. My distance was going down, but now it’s up to what it was 10 years ago. Plus, instead of doing 2 to 3 pushups, I can do 15 to 20 at a time. Not bad for 59 years old! In six months I’ve lost 22 pounds, I have a lot more energy, and I feel better about myself.”
Jerry met Dr. Ebanks at a conference on Martha’s Vineyard. “My wife’s doctor was going to the conference, and she suggested I check it out,” Jerry reports. “She won’t treat husband and wife, she knew I wanted to be healthier, and she recommended I see Dr. Ebanks. His presentation intrigued me. He talked about unusual services and diagnostics that catch problems early, giving patients time to change, so they can avoid chronic problems. I was especially intrigued by telomere testing and repair. The longer your telomeres the longer your life expectancy. I have great genes, but I know that bad habits can mess that up.
“I have wonderful grandkids,” says Jerry. I want to stick around a while.”
Jerry opted for the top of the line “Executive Health Program”, and had his first appointment with Dr. Ebanks in November of 2010.” Since then, he has changed his diet and upped his activity level. “I don’t eat bread or potatoes anymore, and I exercise 3 to 4 days a week,” says Jerry. “I had a bit gut which might be considered normal for a 60-year-old, but I look and feel better now.” When asked if the changes were difficult, he says, “I knew I had to do it. I was a willing candidate, and its working great, which makes it easier. I’ve decided I want to lose another 20 pounds, and I’m on track to do that.”
Jerry’s dedication is especially impressive when you see his schedule. Not only does he run PCC Technology Group, he also is on the board of many professional, community, and educational organizations, and is active in town government and in his church. “I am incredibly busy, to say the least,” he confirms. “But with Dr. Ebanks help I was confident that I was making the necessary changes, and I became determined to improve the level of my health. I make it a priority, working out first thing in the morning.” In addition to his weekly golf game, Jerry attends a boot camp workout class with Cassandra Forsythe-Pribanic, PhD; a Nutrition and Exercise Specialist for Alternity Healthcare. “She’s tough, but she’s also very encouraging, and she makes sure you get results,” he says.
Jerry also is being treated for hormonal imbalance by Dr. Ebanks. Hormonal imbalance in men can cause numerous problems, including reduced bone density, reduced muscle mass, depression, sleep disturbances, sexual dysfunction, dementia, and increased mortality. Hormone treatment requires regular visits, especially in the beginning of treatment. Jerry sees the doctor regularly.
“He’s always available, and that’s a big positive for me. I check in with him a lot. Some of the services he offers are expensive, but it’s been worth every penny. In fact, I would do it again if it cost twice as much.”
