Preventing Illness, for Better Quality of Life

Alternity Healthcare finds and treats potential problems lurking in a patient’s background, well before symptoms arise. We know early detection is important, but prevention is even better. We keep today’s health risks from becoming tomorrow’s chronic illnesses with a sophisticated and aggressive approach, for a better quality of life!

Conventional medicine waits for symptoms to surface to diagnose  diseases. Unfortunately, in cases like heart disease, the first symptom is often sudden death. Why not tackle diseases before they advance? That’s our goal, and that’s why we offer extraordinarily extensive health screening tests.

Cardiopulmonary Exercise Stress Test (CPET)

This important test detects cardiovascular disease and coronary artery disease. It’s especially important for women, since conventional screening frequently misses the diagnosis.

CPET Involves pedaling a stationary bike at increasing levels of difficulty, while your electrocardiogram, heart rate, and blood pressure are monitored for any abnormal rhythm. Physiologic measurements like oxygen consumption – the best measure of aerobic fitness –  show aspects of  cardiovascular function missed by conventional stress tests.cardiovascular screening tests Connecticut

Carotid Intima Media Thickness test (CIMT)

HeartSmartIMTplus™ is a non-invasive, state-of-the-art, cost-effective diagnostic tool for the earliest detection of cardiovascular disease. Safe, painless and convenient, it takes only 10 – 15 minutes in our office.  With advanced ultrasound technology, we measure the thickness of the intima media layers of the carotid arterial wall. Thickening of that layer, due to inflammation, is the earliest sign of cardiovascular disease. It shows long before plaque build-up. This test can also detect plaque and distinguish the type of soft friable plaque that most often results in an acute event.

SphygmoCor CP Pulse Wave Analysis

This non-invasive test measures the actual pressure the heart, brain and kidneys experience.  It identifies central aortic pressure and determines how much pressure comes from diseased or stiffened arteries. We discover your heart’s relative workload, and the ratio of the heart’s demand for oxygen to the available supply. Far beyond traditional blood pressure cuff measurements, we can actually determine your relative vascular age.

Spirometry and Lung Age

Spirometry is a type of pulmonary function test (PFT) that provides information about the volume and speed of airflow through the lungs. It can help to diagnose the presence and severity of lung diseases. It also provides an estimate of lung age based on your functional parameters.

DEXA Bone Density Test

Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) is the gold standard for measuring bone mineral density (BMD). Safe and painless, it provides important information about bone health. Osteoporosis can show no symptoms, making BMD testing important to determine if osteoporosis or osteopenia exists. It shows the amount of bone mineral in the most important areas, including the spine and hips. Our GE Lunar Prodigy scanner estimates of 10-year fracture probability for the hip, spine, forearm or shoulder are endorsed by the National Osteoporosis Foundation.

DEXA Body Composition Analysis

Nutrition, exercise and aging may have profound effects on body composition. With dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) we look beyond weight and traditional body mass index (BMI) to determine body fat distribution – an important risk factor in many serious diseases.  DEXA is the gold standard for determining body composition  A full body scan shows fat percentage, lean body mass, fat mass and the distribution of fat and lean tissue in the arms, trunk, and legs.

Comprehensive Laboratory Testing

Our blood panels provide much more in-depth information about your current health than standard blood tests. We incorporate disease biomarkers, serum and saliva hormone levels, measures of every organ system function, metabolic and nutritional status, neuro-transmitters, chromosome analysis and genetic markers. We use Quest Diagnostic Labs and specialty labs including Life Length Labs, UCLA Immunology Lab, Genova Diagnostics, ALCAT Labs and Labrix, NutraTest Labs, Cleveland Heart Diagnostics and NeuroScience Labs.

Telomere Analysis Technology (TAT)

Telomere length is the key biomarker in understanding your unique aging process. Short telomeres are linked to age-related diseases such as cancer, heart and neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes, obesity, and infertility. The TAT will provide clinical insights to help guide the lifestyle changes necessary to implement to slow the rate of your aging and reduce your risk for developing chronic diseases.

Full Genome Sequencing

Partnering with New Amsterdam Genomics, we analyze all 22,000 of your genes to give you personalized tips to help you master health. You will receive information to help you prevent and reduce health problems, discover which medications work best for you and optimize diet and exercise recommendations based on your specific genetic make-up. New Amsterdam Genomics uses the most accurate technology currently available.

Neuro-Cognitive Screening

CNS Vital Signs is a computerized assessment of reaction time, processing speed, memory, attention/executive functioning and mental status. We use it to mearue and monitor neurocognitive health, and screen for early signs of cognitive decline, dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

Advanced Cancer Diagnostics

ONCOBlot: In studies, this test has been shown to detect cancer as early as stage zero, and can confirm the presence of 27 different cancers.
ExosomeDx: This “liquid biopsy” can provide key information about the aggressiveness of a cancer without an invasive procedure. The test for prostate cancer can help men avoid unnecessary biopsies with little risk. There are also three tests available for lung cancer ensure that patients are treated with most effective therapy for their specific cancer.
EarlyCDT®-Lung Test: this blood test can detect lung cancer before symptoms appear – when the cancer is pea-size or smaller. When treated at a small size, five-year survival rates are more than 50%. Currently, about 85% of lung cancers are found at a “golf-ball” size or larger and overall survival rate is less than 15%.

Hair and Scalp Health

Hair loss affects an estimated 75% of men and two-thirds of women will also have some form of hair loss in their lifetime. Up to 50% of your hair can be lost before it becomes visible to the naked eye. Using two scientific devices, HairCheck trichometer and HairCam microscope, accurate measures of hair loss, hair growth and breakage can be detected on any area of the scalp to guide recommendations for treatment.
