Cassandra Forsythe, PhD, RD

Registered Dietitian and Exercise Physiologist

Dr. Forsythe offers patients expertise in the effects of low-carbohydrate ketogenic diets and resistance exercise on risk factors for heart disease, diabetes and body composition. She is a Registered Dietitian and received her Doctorate from the University of Connecticut; the top kinesiology program in the US. She maintains certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is a Certified Sports Nutritionist through the International Society of Sports Nutrition. Dr. Forsythe earned her Masters Degree in Human Nutrition and Metabolism and her Bachelors Degree in Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. She is an experienced nutrition educator and weight-loss coach and is the author of two popular books for women: “The New Rules of Lifting for Women”, co-authored with Lou Schuler and Alwyn Cosgrove, and “Women’s Health Perfect Body Diet”. Dr. Forsythe is also actively involved in training individuals to maximize their fitness in conjunction with proper eating. She oversees the Nutrition program at Alternity Healthcare, and has been an invaluable resource in assuring the supplements we offer are of the highest quality and have meaningful research to substantiate their effectiveness.

Certified Health and Nutrition Coach, Exercise Physiologist and Certified Athletic Trainer

Kathy provides patients with a complete wellness plan that addresses all aspects of a healthy lifestyle. She works with patients to reach their health goals in areas such as achieving optimal weight, reducing food cravings, increasing sleep, decreasing stress, increasing exercise and maximizing energy. She has worked in the wellness field for 30 years with varied experience that includes working with Division 1 collegiate athletes, cardiac patients and cancer survivors. Kathy earned a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science and Cardiac Rehabilitation from Wake Forest University in North Carolina and a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and Sports Medicine from SUNY Cortland in New York. She also completed a one and one half year Health Coach certification from The Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York and maintains certifications as an Athletic Trainer (NATABOC), Exercise Test Technologist & Cancer Exercise Trainer (ACSM), Pilates Instructor (STOTT Pilates), and Breast Cancer Rehabilitation Exercise Specialist (The Pink Ribbon Program). In addition to working one on one with patients, Kathy teaches small group programs called Change Your Eating, Change Your Life and workshops called The Anti-Cancer Lifestyle for Hartford Hospital’s Department of Integrative Medicine. As a cancer survivor herself, Kathy is especially passionate about coaching other cancer survivors to empower them to successfully navigate the cancer journey and move forward into a life of optimal health and wellbeing.

 

Graylen 2Graylen Ellis

Mobile Phlebotomist

Graylen provides a tremendous convenience for our patients as our mobile phlebotomist. He has been expertly drawing blood for more than 22 years, most of that time with Quest Diagnostics. Graylen has drawn praise for his painless technique from even our most needle-phobic patients, but he brings more than merely that exceptional expertise with him. His engaging, affable demeanor and witty sense of humor makes his early morning visits enjoyable. He is always on time at the agreed upon location and performs his work in a professional and efficient but pleasant manner.  One patient’s comments are typical of what we hear about him: “Graylen is a great guy. What a joy. Perhaps the happiest person I have ever met. How can anyone be so happy at 6AM?” Graylen is a US Navy veteran. He was trained as a hospital corpsman during his tour of duty and has ben stationed at numerous spots around the world.

 

Bernadine Williams-Dormer

Administrative and Medical Assistant

Bernadine is the pleasant and friendly voice you hear on the phone, and the warm smile that greets you when you arrive in our office.  She effortlessly tends to our patients’ needs and remembers the details of their preferences while simultaneously managing a wide variety of administrative tasks. Her kind demeanor, attention to detail and dedication to excellence assures that our patients always have a first class experience.  Bernadine is also a certified phlebotomist and has an degree in Health Science from Goodwin College.  She plans to complete a nursing program in the near future.  She has a background in customer service, medical office administration and jewelry sales.
